LA MAISON DES PALMIERSBed & Breakfast — Homps — France
Set on the banks of the Canal du Midi, La Maison des Palmiers is a manor house built by the Saint Exupery family in the 1860’s
Conveniently placed in the centre of Homps between a waterside bar and restaurant, it has an idyllic Mediterranean garden to get away from the hustle and bustle of the quay. La Maison has five rooms for bed and breakfast but can also, by arrangement, be rented in its entirety on a self catering basis.
La Maison is ideally situated for local markets. Nearby Olonzac (Tuesdays), Lezignan (Wednesdays) and of course the mouthwatering indoor food market at Narbonne which is open until lunchtime every day.
There is also a canal side market in Narbonne on Thursdays and Sundays
Both ‘Le Boat’ and ‘Les Canalous’ are based in Homps with offices a short walking distance from the property. ‘Locaboat’ are in Argens just 4 miles away (transport can be arranged to deliver you and your luggage upon request). During holiday season there is a daily 2 hour canal cruise which departs on the opposite side of the canal.
WINE & GASTRONOMY
Alongside the markets there are a wealth of restaurants serving up local cuisine and other delicacies. For the oenophiles this is the promised land for wine tasting with Chateaus offering their wares at almost every corner. We are situated nearby to many fantastic wine routes.
Check them out HERE!.
CATHAR & HISTORIC BUILDINGS
The majestic citadel at Carcassonne is only 30 minutes away while the medieval village of Minerve is only 15. Many of the great Cathar castles are within easy reach including Termes, Lastours and Queribus.
There are numerous Abbeys situated in the area including Lagrasse, Fontfroid and Caunes Minervois.
A much favoured activity is walking to the Lac de Joaurres to enjoy various watersports and a spot of swimming, or to simply relax at the lakeside bar/restaurant. There is an abundance of local cycling and walking routes and for the more adventourous, paragliding, horse-riding and other adventure sports are all just a short drive away.
The tourist office website will furnish you with an abundance of detailed information on the activities mentioned and more. Take some time to learn about our beautiful region and be our guests. We look forward to sharing stories over some fine local wines in our welcoming guest lounge, or indeed leave you to rest and relax after your busy days

“Very nice hosts, great breakfast, lovely room and good beds and pleasant surroundings. The place was taken over by British couple in January 2016 and they have already made their mark on the place. Got good recommendation on dining venue in Minerve which turned out to be super”

“The maison is beautiful, situated on the Canal du Midi, excellent location, wonderful french vintage garden. The owners, a very nice English couple, were very kind. Everything was perfect, an excellent mixture of French and English styles. Toutes etaient parfait et mignon!”
AGNES – HUNGARY
“We made our bike ride along the Canal du Midi to this beautiful old house for a night stop. The touch of history is felt in this lovingly decorated B & B in every corner. The bathrooms are modern and form a charming contrast to the antique furniture of the rooms. The breakfast is wonderful, there is nothing lacking and we could enjoy it in the beautiful garden. Too bad that we stayed only one night, here you can linger and let the soul dangle.”
CORRINA – GERMANY
“La Maison des Palmiers is a gorgeous hidden gem in sleepy Homps, and a place of balance. The hosts and their family are wonderful.. friendly, sociable and helpful, yet never intrusive. The house is stunning.. both old, quirky and full of character, but spotlessly clean, very very comfortable, and with modern bathrooms, WIFI, and a fridge. Extra points for a great mattress and big, tasty, fresh breakfasts. A great location, next to bars, restaurants, the canal and an easy walk to the lake, yet the garden was so quiet, and felt so cut off from the real world. A lovely, relaxing, peaceful stay, in a gorgeous little village.. we loved every second. Highly recommended.”
MARCUS AND RACHAEL – UNITED KINGDOM

“Gemma and Matt are the most wonderful hosts you can wish for. Their welcome was hearty and uncomplicated, they are helpful, smart, and witty… the room was spacious and cosy, the breakfast copious and delicious, the house is a magnificent maison de maitre with charme and grandeur tres francaises, and with an exotic garden…”
JULIO – GERMANY
“We stayed for one night prior to collecting our hire boat for a weeks cruising on the Canal du Midi. Our hosts, Gemma and Matt, were delightful not only in their welcome to La Maison des Palmiers, but also subsequently when we were moored up beside the guest house in Homps. They could not do enough for us and we felt we arrived as guests and left as good friends. The bedroom and shower room were spotless and we had a good nights sleep. (We’d been upgraded at no extra charge). The breakfast choice was good. The garden is a wonderful oasis of calm and peace. The guest house is in a wonderful spot on the Canal and is close to a good range of bars and restaurants and a couple of shops for grocery provisions. We would definitely stay at La Maison des Palmiers again & would thoroughly recommend it and Homps to others.”
